Kibera matatu owners Sacco said on Monday it earned good profits from the just concluded Nairobi International Trade Fair.

The one week event which closed on Sunday has been a blessing for Kibera matatus.

According to Allan Musa, a conductor, the trade fair saw them get double the income they had collected the previous week.

Driver, Maina wa Njoroge said they had to double fares from town to the showground due to the traffic congestion on Ngong Road and Kibera Drive.

“We had to double our fares due to the traffic which could take us up to two hours from town to the show ground because many people were attending the show,” said Njoroge.

He, however, thinks the traffic can be avoided in future if Ngong Road, Kabarnet Road and Kibera drive are expanded.

Musa said the businesses which are slowly building up along Kibera drive should be demolished and wants the government to expand the road to curb traffic congestion.

“We have a lot of space besides Kabarnet and Kibera drive roads, hawkers are using it for their own benefit. It will be better for the government to build them stalls elsewhere so that the road can be expanded,” he added.
