Over five hundred Catholic faithfuls from the Diocese of Kisii are expected to travel to Nairobi on Tuesday ahead of Pope Francis’ visit to the country, an official has confirmed.

The five hundred are expected to board ten buses and are expected to convene at their respective Parish for the journey.

Speaking on Monday in an exclusive interview on phone, Father Lawrence Nyaanga who is the organising committee secretary from the region said the names of those travelling have been handed to leaders across the diocese.

“We have finalised the preparations and the diocese will send 500 faithfuls to Nairobi. The list is already out and our sincere call is that those who will travel to ensure they gather at their respective parishes on Tuesday so that we travel as a team,” Nyaanga said.

According to him, the group includes over 200 youths who have been committed in spearheading the activities of the church following the emphasis of the Holy Father to support the youthful generation.

“He (The Pope) was very clear about the role of the youth in the society and so we had to include a number of them to go and witness the historic visit. The Church is very keen to support the young generation,” he added.

Nyaanga urged politicians to join the church in preaching peace even after the Pope’s visit to the country.

“My special message to the political leaders is that they must join the church in always preaching peace even after the Pope ends his visit to the country,” he said.
