Mwongori Chief David Ogega has vowed to deploy a team to carry out night patrols to protect the aged from attacks.
Speaking at a Baraza held in a victim’s compound who was attacked Monday night and robbed of valuables, Ogega condemned the rising incidents of crime in the region targeting old people, terming those executing the attacks as cowardly and primitive.
He said the government will not hesitate to guard its people at all costs and urged members of the community to stand with the aged and fight the crime as a united people.
“It is very shameful that some people are targeting old people at night and robbing them. Some have even been injured because they are weak and can’t defend themselves. The government will stand by the aged and protect them. It’s also an obligation of the community to do the same,” he said.
Ogega gave a one week ultimatum to the suspects to surrender to authorities.
"This is not normal crime. It is terrorism and those who have been regularly mentioned should surrender in a week’s time. We are also considering imposing a night curfew so that people stay indoors. My team is keenly monitoring the situation,” he said.
He urged area resident to show love and care to the aged people from the region by giving them peace.
“We should love and care for these people. Stealing the little they have is not good at all. My team will be patrolling the area at night and I am optimistic that such cowardly acts will come to an end,” he said.
