The accident which occurred on Thursday at around 4pm involved a matatu and a Gurdian bus, in a serious head on collusion.

Both vehicles were fully packed with passengers, and even though many were evacuated safely, there were eight casualties who were rushed to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical attention. It is still unclear as to what caused the accident.

John Makori, a boda boda operator who witnessed the accident said that the matatu driver was over speeding, and it seemed the driver lost control over it.

“I actually witnessed how this accident occurred, I may say that the matatu driver is to blame since he was on a high speed heading to Keroka, and since he was on slanting spot, it could easily lose control,” he said.

The Gurdian driver, who was only identified as Jared, seemed to be point an accusing finger at the matatu driver too, saying he was careless.

“Why were you over speeding yet you know this is a major highway plus you claim to be a senior driver, we need to up hold the traffic rules to avoid causing death while on duty,” he said angrily.

Kisii Central OCPD, Tom Mutisya had issued a stun warning against those who are contravening the traffic laws, saying that they will face full force of the law.
