Ms Mureithi argued that the children were in the dire need of the money as their parents did not have a stable income. “Majority of the parents who have children living with disabilities cannot go to work. Yet we have many of their children in schools that care for the children living with disabilities. Their needs are also much and chipping in on their fee will be the first step into improving their lives,” she added.

Ms Mureithi called on the parents to apply for the fees citing that many had not expressed the need to have the cash. “We rarely have them coming to our office to fill the bursary forms. There is enough money that can sustain these children up to high school. We urge parents of such children to ensure that they do not hide them but also give them an opportunity to learn like the others. In fact, we have seen children with special needs succeed and become great people in the society just because they were given the opportunity to learn,” she added.

Ms Mureithi said that the bursary application forms are available in her office anytime. “We will start issuing the money in January next year,” she added.
