Speaking during a clean-up exercise in Kiambu town on Wednesday, the Sub-County environmental officer Mr. James Kaboru said that the time had come for the residents to embrace the pit latrines and to avoid open defecation.

“We often see residents digging graves for the deceased but surprisingly they are finding it difficult to dig pit latrines. Every household and public place such as markets should have pit latrines," he said.

He added that cleaning up the environment should not be a one day exercise but that residents should own it and make it part of their lifestyle adding that good health is directly related to a clean environment.

He further revealed that plans were underway to introduce a clean-up programme that will ensure consistent clean-up exercises that will see proper management of waste in the area.

“We will not wait for the world clean up day to clean our county. We want to manage our waste and clean our county to ensure we are safe from diseases.” he said.
