In a statement released by Director of Communication Stellah Ondimu, the county government and county assembly were unanimous in deciding that it was the perfect way of paying tribute to ‘a defender of devolution and champion of democracy’.

“We will send a delegation of over 500 representatives to the funeral to take our condolences to the bereaved family and Homabay residents. Senator Kajwang’ was a formidable pillar of decentralisation of governance,” read part of the statement.

According to the statement, the expenses will be met by substantial contributions from MCAs, ODM Kisii branch and other well-wishers.

“It is proper to let the public know that it is not the tax payers’ money but our own contribution from MCAs, county ODM leadership and business community,” added the statement.

The delegation is expected to be led by Governor James Ongwae, who is also the Kisii County ODM secretary general and County Senator Chris Obure.

Members of the public will board the vehicles regardless of their political affiliation and prejudices.

“We invite all Kisii County residents who are ready to go for the function to come join us,” concluded the statement.

Senator Kajwang’ succumbed to a suspected cardiac arrest last week in Mater hospital in Nairobi and will be laid to rest on Friday at his Mbita home in Homabay County.
