Nakuru first Lady Lucia Kinuthia has expressed disappointment at the mishandling of children living with cerebral palsy by the Naivasha District Hospital. Mrs Kinuthia hit out at the doctors, nurses and Ministry of Health officials that had gathered at the hospital to mark the 2nd annual ‘Palliative and Cerebral Paralysis day’ in Naivasha. Trouble brewed as she visited the physiotherapy center and found a young boy seated on a wheelchair under the scorching sun. “It is inhumane to keep the children under the sun with nothing to eat when they come for their regular exercises. They are also forced to seat on the wheelchair and this becomes uncomfortable. Does it mean that the government cannot afford mattresses and tents?” she quipped She further added that there were no nurses to look after the children as the hospital was understaffed. Mrs Kinuthia proposed that the hospital should waive all fee for children living with disabilities as their parents could not take care of them since they were not employed. “We are appealing to the hospitals to get rid of all payments including the Ksh 50 for therapy and Ksh 50 consultation fee that they are forced to pay.” She also appealed to the hospitals to come up with a ward for children living with disabilities as they could not share beds with other children.
