Over 8,500 males benefited from the Voluntary Male Medical Circumcision exercise that took place in Nakuru County. County health executive Daniel Mungai said that the large turnout in the area was impressive. “We were targeting at least 10,000 youths in the area and got more than half. The fact that it was free encouraged many people to come out, most of whom did not have cash to undergo the rite of passage in hospitals,” he said. Mungai was speaking to the press at Naivasha district hospital where he called on residents to take advantage of the free medical services that are being offered in the county. He said that Nakuru County department of health had provided enough technical support that ensured that all 55 wards were covered within one month. “We know the benefits that circumcision brings. We had to talk to the people undergoing the exercise and explain to them the benefits before they undertook it,” he added. He also called on residents to show up for the free cancer screening that is scheduled to take place in the county.
