Three suspected inmates who allegedly murdered Kisumu's serial killer Harrison Okumu on Friday appeared at the Kisumu High Court.
The suspects Dennis Ombese Kebati, Samson Matoke Machoka and Douglas Onyancha were charged with the murder that happened on Wednesday at Kodiaga Main prison.
The three suspects appeared before deputy registrar Jecinta Owiti this morning for mention of their case.
Owiti said all the suspects be escorted by the police to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital for mental assessment.
She said that the third suspect, Douglas Onyancha who had complained of stomach illness should be treated.
The prosecution side said that the three suspects should be remanded at the Kodiaga Main Prison in Kisumu County.
The suspects will be in court on May 27 to make a plea before a judge.
Okumu was strangled to death by inmates at Kodiaga regional prison.
Officer-In-Charge of Kodiaga Prison, Aggrey Onyango said that Okumu was murdered by three inmates inside his cell between 5.15pm and 5.30pm on Wednesday.
Onyango said that the inmates were found hiding on top of the prison’s roof by officials following the incident in what seemed to be an escape attempt.
