The sinking of the boreholes will end water shortage problems in the areas within the sub county.

Program Manager for World Vision in Katito area Pius Akumu says the boreholes are equally spread in Lower Nyakach to help mitigate water problems.

Akumu says they had earlier intended to pump the water from the boreholes using electricity but that has not borne any fruit.

He added that the commissioning of the project were delayed as result of lack of electricity and that they have now installed solar panels for power.

Akumu says lower Nyakach area experiences a lot of sunshine adding that it will enable the solar panels to constantly pump the water for community members.

He says the water will also be used for irrigation and to promote health in facilities among other uses.

“We expect people from this area to use the water to irrigate their farms and even for their animals given that it is a very dry area,” he said.

Speaking while touring the projects, he said World Vision is targeting to change lives of the community members especially women and children.

Akumu said the boreholes have been connected to 50,000 cubic metre tanks which have the capacity to supply several families. He added that they will also connect pipes to villages.

He was accompanied by Kisumu Water Minister Prof Barack Abonyo who announced that Governor Jack Ranguma will commission the water boreholes early next month.
