The Ruiru Environmental Youth group on Thursday went to the streets protesting the high levies imposed on them by Kiambu County Government.
The members who most of them confessed to be former criminals collect garbage in the town.
Led by their leader Francis Wainaina, the group urged the county government to give them a conducive working environment.
"If they drive us out of business, they be ready to give us new jobs or else we go back to crime. The business helps us to get our daily bread,” notes Wainaina.
The members said they have been cleaning the town at a small fee from residents but now the county government want to take their job away as the town has now become clean.
“Our business is legal. We could be selling drugs but we have opted to do what is of benefit to our people. We are therefore urging our county government to give us peace so that we can work for Ruiru people,” said Wainaina.
