Nairobi Members of County Assembly appear divided over the push for house allowances.
Members pushing for more money claim the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has sidelined them.
Leader of Majority Abdi Guyo who is leading the pack clamouring for more pay said that they are justified to demand house allowance.
“This is a resolution that was passed by the County Assembly Forum and SRC knows we need the houses allowances. We are state officers too and nobody should discriminate against us,” Guyo stated on Sunday.
Guyo's sentiment, however, received opposition from two MCAs.
Eastleigh North MCA Osman Adow insisted that those pushing for more money should seek better-paying jobs.
"If one feels that they are earning less, they should go and look for other jobs instead of fighting for hefty perks just because the MPs and Senators are doing so,” he stated.
He received support from Waithaka MCA Anthony Kiragu who plans to write to the clerk for his payslip to exclude house allowances.
The move by MCAs to claim big allowances comes amid tough economic times when the country is struggling with a bloated wage bill.
Lately, Thirdway Party Alliance has resorted to pushing for a referendum to slash the salaries of various state officers.
