Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny has accused Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot of politicising the ongoing Mau evictions.
Speaking during Citizen TV's JKLive show on Wednesday, Kutuny insisted that some politicians are using the evictions to sell their political agenda.
He noted that politicising the evictions won't in any way help the people get land to resettle.
''The person playing politics with this issue of the Mau is Aaron Cheruiyot, he is not offering a solution that will help conserve our environment and resettle the people,'' said Kutuny.
Kutuny also divulged that the government through the then Prime Minister's office headed by the ODM leader Raila Odinga had set aside close to Sh18 billion to enable smooth resettlement of the evictees.
''Anyone coming to claim that demarcations were supposed to be done is playing politics. The government had sourced Sh18B to resettle these people, it had identified land to resettle these people,'' added Kutuny.
However, in the same show, Cheruiyot maintained that the evictions are illegal and that they are being done inhumanly.
He opined that the schools which had been built in that region were a clear indication the government had allowed people to stay there.
''After phase 1 there was supposed to be reforestation and the creation of a buffer zone, that was not done and that is where the problem is. The fact that schools have been built in the area tells you that the government had made a decision of not moving the people,'' said Cheruiyot.
Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya had warned against politicising the evictions. This saw the arrest of Emurrua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng'eno and two other MCAs who were accused of allegedly trying to lead demonstrations against the second phase of eviction.
Several police officers have since been deployed to the area to monitor the movements.
