Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula has now appealed to  ODM leader Raila Odinga to back a presidential candidate from the Mulembe Nation in 2022.

Speaking at Sibanga in Trans Nzoia County during the burial of Vincent Wattanga, the father of Humphrey Wattanga, Wetangula said that the Luhya community has stood with the Former Prime Minister before and now its time for him to rally the Luo community behind one of their own.

He noted that a Luhya candidate will be better placed to ascend to power after President Uhuru Kenyatta leaves office if Raila stands with him or her.

The Bungoma senator also said that besides Raila, Luhya’s supported his father Jaramogi Odinga when he wanted to become the President and now the time has come for them to pay back in a friendly manner.

“The Luhya community rallied behind Jaramogi Odinga’s presidential ambitions and later did the same to his son Raila Odinga. It is time we also get support from the Luo community," said Wetang'ula, as quoted by Standard.

Wetangula also assured the community that they will not allow them to be taken for a ride by other candidates as they seek to deliver the seat back home.

It remains unclear whether Raila will back any candidate or he will choose to go for the post himself.
