The Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof. John S. Akama has lauded World Bank over their intention of signing a pact with the institution with regards to E- Waste management.
While addressing a delegation from World Bank at the institution on Friday, Prof. Akama said that Kisii University is headed towards becoming a center of excellence in relation to e-waste management not only in Kenya but also in the entire continent.
He noted that the university had proved to be one of the fastest growing institutions of higher learning in Kenya, adding that it is among the pioneers who began offering e-waste management courses in Kenya and probably in Africa.
The delegation from World Bank visited the institution’s facilities for a fact finding mission and a memorandum is expected to follow in a few months.
The university's Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. John Mailutha also said that the institution had recorded a rapid growth thus the need to be facilitated to become a centre of excellence in the region.
The student president elect Jeff Mitei on the same note appreciated the university's move of improving facilities by incorporating donors in fostering academic development.
“We will go down in history for being the first institution in Kenya to offer e-waste management courses,” said Mitei.
