Residents in Matungulu and Kangundo Sub-County have been urged to follow the legal procedures when adopting children in order to discourage child trafficking in the area.
Speaking to this writer in her office on Monday, Kangundo children officer Susan Ouma said adopting a child comes with many requirements that need to be followed.
Ouma said anyone who claims to have adopted a child without acquiring adoption papers will be arrested and arraigned in court.
She advised residents to follow the legal procedures whenever they want to adopt a child adding that although it was a long process, it is important to follow the law to ensure the child is placed in the hands of the right caregivers.
"Adoption is a long process which needs to be followed by interested parents for the purpose of ensuring the child is in good hands and as a way of curbing child trafficking,” said Ouma.
The children officer said adopted children have a right to know their status in the family, and urged parents not to hide this from the children.
