Speaking at the County assembly premises, Majority leader Samuel Ong’ou said the cancellation is a bit disappoinmting adding that since they had been invited by the executive, there is nothing much they can do about it.

Ong’ou added that the executives needed the retreat more than the county members because they are the ones divided and some of them don’t even know their roles.

He said in the county assembly they are united and they know well their mandate hence the cancellation of the retreat raises a lot of questions in regards to the executive.

“What we will ensure is that if the executive doesn’t perform, we will send them home before we are sent home because we want to deliver service to the people,” the Majority leader said.

The Deputy Minority Chief Whip Caroline Owen said the cancellation shows a great disunity within the executive.

Owen said through the retreat, the MCAs had planned to get various answers concerning issues within the county that were unresolved.

“We were planning to ask questions concerning bursaries and developments like the Sh1,585,000 bursary fund meant for my ward which disappeared," she said.

She added that the executive must come up quickly and reorganize the retreat for the benefit of the people and themselves.

Gabriel Ochieng, Kondele Ward representative however said the retreat was not about only bonding hence the sudden cancellation is a great disappointment.

Ochieng said the cancellation means that the executive members know why there is failure in development within the county.

The retreat was planned by Kisumu county government for the county officials in Nairobi scheduled for Friday. It was to take place at the Kenya School of Government, attended by the governor Jack Ranguma, his Deputy, County Executive members, County Chief Officers and all MCAs.
