A man who impersonated Police in Nakuru was on Thursday arraigned in a Nakuru Law Court to answer impersonation charges.

Charles Mwaura, 34 who appeared before Chief Resident Magistrate Samuel Mungai however denied that on March 22 this month at Kwa Right Business Centre in Njoro sub-county, posed as a Police officer and attempted to extort money from bar attendants.

The Prosecution Desk told the Court that the accused demanded Sh2,000 from Alex Njoroge and Nancy Njoki after he threatened to arrest them for operating outside the stipulated hours after he stormed their business premises at around 4pm.

Magistrate Mungai was told that the accused had tried to call for ‘reinforcement’ after the complainants refused to abide by his demands while denying that they were doing normal cleanliness and taking stock in their business premises.

The Court also heard that the accused was arrested by members of the public who handed him over to Police officers from Njoro Police Station who were on patrol after he failed to identify himself as a Police officer.

He was released on a Sh100,000 cash bond before the hearing of the case on April 29.

In the same Court, a bar maid who stole a mobile phone worth Sh15,000 from one of his customers at a bar in Nakuru town on March 23 was remanded before the hearing of the case on April 29 after she failed to raise a Sh20,000 cash bond.

The prosecution desk had told the Court that Milka Adhiambo, 27 stole Moses Kamau’s mobile phone after he left it at the seat near the counter as he went to help himself at the Gents.
