Kitutu Chache South acting sub county administrator Tom Machana has challenged parents from the Gusii community to invest in girl-child education instead of subjecting their under age daughters to the outdated cultural practice of Female Genital Mutilation(FGM).
Machana reminded parents from the community that FGM had no value in the fast changing world instead they should stop the outlawed cultural practice and invest their time and energy educating their daughters.
Speaking on Friday evening at Mwamba Mixed Primary Academy in the outskirts of Kisii town during the school's pre-unit pupils' graduation, Machana warned parents and other members of the community that the government was monitoring those subjecting their daughters to the outlawed FGM during this December holidays and if caught they would be arrested and taken to court.
"As a county government of Kisii, we are against the subjecting of girls to the outdated FGM practice which has outlived its usefulness in our community; instead want to stress that all parents must give girl-child education first priority and the attention it deserves," said Machana.
