In the case, 51-year-old Joseph Kololgei is accused of allowing villagers to host a female circumcision ceremony in his homestead on December 3, 2013 in which eight girls underwent the illegal cut.

The eight are said to have been rushed for treatment at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital after they developed complications related to FGM.

According to court files the girls aged between 16 and 20 years, three of whom were expectant, secretly underwent the ritual at Teret area in Mau Narok.

Mary Tinga, a volunteer with Loreto Sisters against FGM who took the girls to hospital earlier told the court that the girls were rescued by the area chief and Administration Police officers following a tip-off.

Kololgei has been out on a Sh 100,000 bond after he denied the charges against him.

The judgement which was meant to be delivered on April 26 was postponed due to absence of the presiding magistrate.
