Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has reignited National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale’s dual citizenship debate.
In a tweet, Mwaura said that Duale is not a Kenyan after it emerged that the Somalia community is allowed to marry more than one wife.
Mwaura said that time has come for Duale to come clean on his citizenship.
“In 2009 census Mandera has 3 men to 1 woman. How do they live there? Can Duale declare his citizenship since Omtata claims him, Safia Abdi, Dahir Duale, Adan Haji, Yusuf Hassan and Mohammed Garane have dual citizenship n therefore holding their state offices illegally,” he said.
Duale has in the past dismissed claims that he is a Somalia citizen. He made the remarks after the MPs insisted that South Korea Envoy nominee Mwende Mwinzi must renounce her dual citizenship.
But Duale said, “It is a matter of public notoriety that I am a proud Kenyan citizen and I do not hold dual citizenship and I have never held citizenship of another country and will never do. Mimi ni Mkenya kwa damu na daima nitazidi kuwa Mkenya (I'm Kenyan in the blood and will always be Kenyan)”.Duale lamented that some persons have decided to blackmail him after he refused to push for Mwinzi’s approval.
