The construction of the multi-billion modern Kang'ooki dumpsite in Kiganjo, Thika has been suspended for a while due to the ongoing heavy rains, Kiambu County Director of Environment Andrew Kimani has said.

Speaking in Thika Town on Monday, Kimani said the construction of the dumpsite is on schedule and is likely to resume early January when the rains subside.

"We are on schedule as far as the construction of the dumpsite is concerned and we hope to complete its construction in the set time. We have, however, for now called off the construction activities at the site until the rains subside," said Kimani.

the director said the construction of the stone perimetre wall around the 20-acre land where the dumpsite will be situated is now complete and ground works will begin soon.

"We are always there to ensure that everything is moving as planned. In January next year we move to the next level now that the wall is complete", he said.

The construction of the dumpsite was launched on March this year by Governor William Kabogo.

The project which is expected to reduce the effects of solid waste greatly is jointly funded by the Swedish Embassy, UN Habitat, Kiambu government among others.
