Nyamira County Commissioner Josephine Onunga has urged church leaders to be in the forefront in preaching and promoting peace.
Onunga said church leaders are always with the faithful during services and preaching is one of the best ways of preaching peace among them.
"Church leaders are always with people or members of society in churches or worshiping centres and they are always taken serious in their work and by doing so peace shall prevail in our county," said Onunga.
She spoke on Monday in Nyamira town when she officially opened a church leaders seminar organised by the Directorate of National Cohesion and National Values.
Also present was the Nyamira South sub-county commissioner Denis Kirui who said during the 2007/8 post-election violence, many people died and most of the victims or the affected families have not recovered from the ordeal.
He said there is need for reconciliation and establishing mechanisms for communities to come together as one people.
"National cohesion is an important facet of national integration and so far the work they are doing is good. We do not want to experience the same whereby Kenyans turn against one another," said Kirui.
The seminar closes on Thursday.
