A five-storey building collapsed on Thursday following an earthquake that was experienced in most parts of the Kisii County.
According to tenants who had vacated Storm Apartment before it collapsed, the incident is directly linked to poor foundation and materials used in the construction.
“The building developed cracks after last night’s earthquake before it started sinking from the back side. I doubt if the materials that were used during construction and even the pillar of the building were well founded,” said Joseph Ondieki, a tenant.
Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has since condemned the engineer who recommended the construction of the ill-fated building and said they will hunt him down so that he can be held responsible.
However, there was no causality from the incident since tenants had vacated the building carrying their belongings with them
