Former Naivasha Member of Parliament John Mututho has hit out at IDPS living in Mumoi who criticized him for dumping them in a dry and deserted area. In a phone interview, Mututho termed the IDPs as lazy, citing that the area was productive except the IDPs were just being lazy. Last week, three IDPS reportedly died from hunger related complications in the area. An irate Mututho claimed that those were fake IDPS, adding that the government had already resettled all the genuine IDPS and no one was living in the camp. According to Mututho, they had originated from Kiambogo in Gilgil when they heard that there was free land, they sought their relatives and fixed them on the IDPS register. He added that they ensured that they gave them enough food to last for a while before they got on their feet. “We supplied them with enough food and fertilizer. I transported them with my own Lorries and ensured that they were settled and could start their lives again. I even slaughtered for them two bulls on that Christmas. Seven years down the line they should be millionaires by now. However, they do not want to work and instead rely on relief food alone. Even the owners of the land are yet to be paid,” he cited. Mututho hit out at the National IDP Leader Peter Kariuki, citing that he was a con artist who had institutionalized the cases of IDPs. “The motive of his claims is questionable,” he added. Kariuki had hit at Mututho for duping the IDPs into a dry and infertile area. “He gave me Sh 20 000 to go and look at the land with other leaders. However, when we rejected the land he came and forcefully took them to the area,” said Kariuki.
