Addressing journalists in Kisii town, Mwangi said the training is important since it will enable students to know and understand the pre-cautions against terror attacks.

The commissioner asked Kisii residents to embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative since it is meant to beef up security amongst individuals.

He told students to know who they operate with as one of the measures of tackling the insecurity menace in the country.

“Security starts with individuals and that is why the ‘Nyumba Kumi’ initiative is important to enable residents know their neighbours. I will not be in everyone’s home neither will the police manage to guard all households,” Mwangi noted.

He added, “I ask students in learning institutions to be vigilant and know better students they stay with in hostels. They need to know their daily business and report any wayward move the notice among their colleague.”

The county commissioner noted the government is committed in enhancing security country wide.

“My appeal to the county government is to join together our efforts in the fight against terrorism in our country. The national government is much committed to ensure security prevails among Kenyans,” said Mwangi.

Kisii County governor James Ongwae has since promised to work with the national government in the fight against terrorism to establish mechanisms in handling terrorism and terror threats.
