Uasin Gishu County assembly Speaker Isaac Terer has urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Ministry of Education to speedily settle the teacher’s salary issue.

He said implementing the pay increment would prevent students from suffering especially in this term where most students are expected to sit for their exams.

Speaking from his office on Wednesday, Terer said it was sad how TSC is handling the teacher’s salary increment issue.

He added that the government has the machinery to source money for the same.

“The finance minister should pay teachers and should avoid always saying they don’t have money to effect the increment. TSC and Treasury should pay teachers and thereafter take the supplementary budget to parliament for its approval as directed by the chairman of Budget and Appropriation Mutava Musyimi. The government has money and should stop playing blame games yet our children are at home,” he said.

He urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene to end the stalemate.
