Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to be fair as they handle issues related to inflammatory remarks made by political leaders.
Through his official Facebook page, Sang said that as much as he does not support the utterances made by Nandi Senator Samson Cheragei, the DCI should not be discriminative in the fight against hate speech.
"I do not personally support remarks by my friend and Senator Kiprotich Cherargei, that may have been misconstrued as hateful, I am appalled by DCI's supersonic speed in regards to Cherargei's case, while they have failed to act on far more inflammatory statements made by other political leaders in the country.
I also want to urge my colleague leaders to be cautious and avoid making statements which could spark animosity," said the Jubilee governor.
Senator Charargei was on Tuesday morning arrested at his Elgon view residence after a video was highly shared on the social media where he said he is marking and profiling those fighting the deputy president.
Governor Stephen Sang was at Kisumu Central Police Station where he visited and stood in solidarity w Senator Kiprotich Cherargei. The Senator was released on a 50,000 cash bail.
