Miriri location chief Naftal Ongaki confirmed the Tuesday evening incident saying police officers acted swiftly following a tip-off from members of the public who found the suspects with meat at Nyamakairo village.

"It is shocking that the theft of livestock is yet to come to an end in Nyamira. We are yet to understand how the thieves got the courage to steal the sheep from the assistant chief's homestead and slaughtered it," said Ongaki.

The administrator said police busted the suspects in a house roasting meat when three suspects escaped through the window abandoning one suspect who was apprehended.

He said the suspect in custody is helping police officers with information to arrest those who escaped before they will be taken to court.

Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba assured that police officers are doing everything possible to end livestock theft.

"Residents can not continue living in fear because some few people who do not want to work hard are stealing. Police officers are working hard to flush out those stealing livestock from villages," Mariba noted.
