The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has come out to dismiss reports that it was using the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) as a tool for 2022 succession politics.
Through Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the party accused the media of spreading propaganda that Raila was using his handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta and the BBI, to advance his political interests, with the next general election in mind.
In a statement on Tuesday posted by Philip Etale, Sifuna said the former Prime Minister was not focusing on any seat, adding he will let the country know when he plans to vie.
"Our party leader has not declared interest to run for any seat in the 2022 general election. If and when he intends to, he will do it in broad daylight just like he has done previously," he said.
Sifuna said ODM will not be detracted from focusing on BBI, which he said was about creating 'a stronger nation, a corruption-free country, a country where the will of the people will not be subverted and rule of law respected by all', by diversionary antics from the media.
On the 2022 politics, he said the Orange party will come out boldly and let the nation know its plan when the election date is announced.
"ODM is a bold party that does not need to hide behind any facade to advance its causes. When the whistle is sounded we shall come out to boldly state our plan for the nation for purposes of the 2022 Election," Sifuna added.
