Youth and women from Kalama sub county have been urged to vie for elective positions in the upcoming general elections to foster development in the area.
Speaking in Mbukoni, former Kyangala Councillor Paul Nyanzi said Kalama had lagged behind in development.
He observed that youth and women have been shying away of from vying for positions in the area.
"Kalama sub county compared to other places in the county it is still behind in development, may be because we have been having the same leaders who are not development minded at all," said Nyanzi.
"Youth are future leaders and women understand the peoples needs better than anyone, why don't you come out in 2017 and ask for votes?" he asked.
Mr Nyanzi also asked the county government to ensure that the hospitals in Kalama are well equipped and have enough doctors to save the residents from having to travel to Machakos town to acquire special medical attention.
