Nakuru County 'First Lady' Lucia Kinuthia on Monday presided over the launch of the Cancer Awareness Month on Monday at the Nakuru West Sub- County, GK Prison in London Ward.

Mbugua lauded great efforts being put forward by the County Health department in offering health education on basic information about cancer, the outreach services at the sub county and ward levels, the strengthening and acceleration of screening at the health facilities. 

She also donated sanitary pads and some foodstuff to the inmates at the prison.

Various activities were conducted at the event, including awareness on family planning, cancer screening and other related reproductive health services. 

According to Mbugua, Nakuru County through, the department of health will be conducting cancer screening around the sub counties.

"While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same," she said. 

The first lady was accompanied by the CeC in charge of Health Dr Mungai Kabii, and the Health Chief Officer Dr Samuel Mwaura among other leaders and officials from the county government.
