Residents of Manyani estate in the outskirt of Nakuru town have decried the increase of illicit brew dens and prostitution saying that the area has become 'rotten'.
Speaking this Monday morning at Manyani trading center, the irate residents called upon the new county police boss to increase police round-ups in the area in order to curb the vice in the area. They specifically mentioned Makuti, Kisumu ndogo and Nakuru South Cemetry as the most affected.
Harrison Omumbayi, a resident in the area said that illicit brew is being sold in almost every corner of the estate and he mentioned Nakuru South Cemetry area as the most affected since according to him more than fifty individuals are selling chang'aa and bhang in the area unshaken. He said that the increase of the illicit brew in the area has attracted prostitution and has therefore spread HIV viruses among the residents. He said that many youths have dropped out of school to engage in the illicit brew business, while girls as young as 16 years old engage in prostitution with older men.
"We want to urge the new police boss Hassan Barua to fight illicit brew in this area mercilessly," said Omumbayi.
He called upon parents and guardians to take their responsibility and control the behaviour of their children while they were still young.
