Speaking at Ngewa trading centre on Wednesday, area MCA Karungo Thang’wa claimed that many residents are unable to get permits as result of high application fees.

Thanga’wa noted that the move has seen many youths who want to start business fail.

“The Kiambu government should lower rates for people who want to start business ventures. High rates are discouraging potential entrepreneurs,” he said.

The MCA noted that business is being affected by high rates charged on traders.

“Many business ventures are falling day by day, Governor Kabogo should lower levies being imposed to small traders,” added the MCA.

Thanga’wa threatened that area MCAs will petition the county government to relevant authorities including the senate if it fails to lower rates.

He said that imposing high levies on traders will lower economic development activities in the county.

Thang’wa urged traders and hawkers to speak in one voice and petition the county to lower levies.
