Revellers in Makongeni Location have been asked to be extra cautious this December especially those who go drinking late into the night.
Makongeni Chief Daniel Waiguru, speaking in his office on Tuesday, said that they were concerned about the safety of the late night merry-makers amid the ongoing heavy rains.
"We have now ushered in the month of December when many people are always in a celebratory mood. Many revellers tend to overdrink and that is why we would like them to be mindful of their safety especially at night. This December is full of heavy rains unlike previous ones in the recent past," said Waiguru.
He said that the heavy rains had left many roadside trenches and open holes flooded with stagnant water which posed a huge danger to night time drunk pedestrians.
"If you must drink beyond evening hours when there is still some light, spare some coins to pay a bodaboda to ferry you home," said Waiguru.
The chief has also appealed to the revellers to be modesty in their drinking escapades and avoid cases of bar fights that may result to violence, injuries or even deaths.
"Bar fights and violence will not be tolerated at all and bar owners must be vigilant and send away all troublemakers hell-bent on causing commotions," he said.
