Registered youth groups from Sameta ward in Kisii County will get a boom of up to Sh150,000 from the area MCA to improve their businesses.

Speaking on Monday at the ward, The MCA Mr Evans Siko said the move will see youths venture into businesses and reduce the rate of idleness which is said to be worrying.

According to him, youth groups that have been in existence for five years and more will get Sh150,000 with the newly started groups getting Sh20,000 each.

He urged youths to shun crime and join economically viable activities that did not risk their lives.

“I am always ready to empower youths and that is why I think the initiative will attract many of them to form serious groups. My leadership will keep an eye on the performances of the groups and I think there will be healthy competition among them to try vast businesses. Idleness is a disease and I want to get a number of them out of it,” he said.

The county government will hold a business forum in the region to educate them on how to sustain businesses making him confident that the exercise will yield its intended purpose.

“Idleness and joining criminal groups will not help us and we have to get a remedy to this. Therefore, I know many critics will get political rhetoric out of this but it’s a project that I will be keen on. The county government will be holding a business forum here mid this month and perhaps this is the opportunity to help our youths rethink,” he said.
