Unknown people on Monday night vandalised about 20 street light poles in Kangundo town and stole the lamps.
The lights had been installed by the county government along Kwa Akamba road a few months ago and some of them had stopped working.
Reports indicate that the perpetrators used hack-saws to bring down 18 poles out of the 26 installed and took the lamps.
Chris Kyalo, Kangundo market chairman on Tuesday told the press that the thieves took advantage of darkness to go on with the theft unnoticed.
He said the remaining eight security lights are not working thus posing risks to residents who may be using the road at night.
"The county government should re-install the lights because insecurity is cropping-up in the area due to darkness. We have people who may be bringing their sick relatives to hospital at night, the road is not secure anymore," he said.
He urged the police to hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to book.
The incident comes barely a week after a tank supplying water from Masewani borehole was broken by unknown people
