A former senior police officer who was being charged jointly with police imposter Joshua Waiganjo at a Nakuru Court is dead.
The former Anti-Stock Theft Unit Commandant Michael Remi Ngugi died at a Nairobi hospital while receiving treatment.
The family of Ngugi through their spokesperson, Muchai, confirmed that Ngugi died on Saturday while undergoing treatment.
Muchai who is Ngugi’s brother was reluctant to divulge information on the cause of death but however said that Ngugi was battling a long illness.
“He has been battling a long illness for close to three years but succumbed yesterday (Saturday). The family is still mourning,” said Muchai as quoted by nation.co.ke.
Ngugi was being charged together with former Rift Valley Provincial Police Commissioner John Kaua M’Mbijiwe with irregularly using their office to recruit Waiganjo who was masquerading as a senior police officer for more than five years.
In the case, Ngugi was being accused that on diverse dates in 2012, he allowed Waiganjo to unlawfully use a police motor vehicle at the unit’s headquarters in Gigil.
Mr M’Mbijiwe is facing charges of allowing Waiganjo to unlawfully board a police helicopter in 2012 at the Lanet Airstrip in Nakuru County.
