Gem Member of Parliament (MP) Elisha Odhiambo has reacted to the grisly accident involving an Eldoret Express bus and a truck that occurred on Friday morning killing and injuring scores of people.
In a tweet on Friday, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP sent his condolences to the families of the victims and wished those who sustained injuries a quick recovery.
He urged the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to take action by re-engineering the existing traffic policies to prevent accidents from occurring in future.
"My heartfelt thoughts go out to the families who have lost their loved ones in the 1.30 am Eldoret Express Bus accident at Awasi. I wish quick recovery upon those injured. NTSA should now re-engineer road safety policies and programs in line with the current road practices," he tweeted.
Kisumu County Police Commander Benson Maweu confirmed the accident.
"The bus was travelling from Kisumu to Kericho on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway when the driver tried to overtake a cane tractor before it was involved in a head on collision with the trailer," Maweu told members of the press.
The accident left 13 people dead, and several others injured.
