Controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna has fired at the government, a day after the retrieval of the car in the Likoni tragedy incident.
The vehicle alongside the bodies of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu were retrieved from the Likoni channel on Friday, ending a 13-day wait.
On Saturday, the lawyer lashed out at the government for taking too long to recover the bodies, saying that the long wait is a show of incompetence by the Kenya Navy.
He termed it proof that Kenya is not prepared for such incidences, which puts the safety of Kenyans at risk, adding that the inclusion of foreign divers worsens the situation.
"Kenya has no navy. Kenya has no trained and well-prepared emergency or disaster response team. 56 years after flag independence, it should not have required a private company from South Africa and its employees to retrieve the bodies of Amanda and Mariam. This is the sole responsibility of the Kenya Navy," he wrote on Facebook.
He sent the same to the Kenya Ferry Service, saying that had the service been keen and competent, the nation would have avoided the deaths of the two Kenyans.
"Amanda and Mariam would not have died if the ferry service was operated competently. There were no "strong currents" as the inept Navy has alleged. The car was found exactly where it had fallen and sank," he added.
The vehicle is said to have reversed from MV Harambee and plunged into the ocean, with the state blaming strong currents, poor visibility and bad weather for the delay in the recovery mission.
