Kikuyu lawmaker Kimani Ichungwa has criticised opposition leaders calling for the disbandment and reconstitution of the Cabinet.

Mr Ichungwa, while addressing residents in Kikuyu town on Monday said the opposition is known for its criticism and that the government will not be distracted by their lamentations.

The MP accused the opposition of criticising and politicising every decision made by the government.

“The opposition led by brother Raila Odinga should be objective and engage the government in constructive criticisms instead of ridiculing the government,” he said.

The Kikuyu MP defended the Cabinet reshuffles recently done by President Uhuru Kenyatta saying the reshuffles will help the Jubilee government actualise its development agenda.

He said the President is mandated to make changes in his Cabinet at anytime.

Mr Ichungwa said the Jubilee government is keen to delivering the development promises made to Kenyans.

He said the government will not be moved by negative criticism from the opposition.

The MP urged Kenyans to support the government as it seeks to propel development.

Last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta reshuffled Cabinet.

The President introduced new nominees for various ministries and sacked five Cabinet Secretaries Felix Koskey, Michael Kamau, Charity Ngilu, Kazungu Kambi and Davis Chirchir who had stepped aside over corruption.

The new nominees in the Cabinet are Kericho Senator Charles Keter who will take over the Energy Ministry, Dan Kazungu (Mining), Dr Cleopa Mailu (Health), Willy Bett (Agriculture) and Joe Mucheru (Information Communication Technology).

Cabinet Secretaries who have been moved to other ministries are Jacob Kaimenyi who has moved from Education to Lands, Fred Matiang’i from ICT to Education, Phyllis Kandie from Tourism to Labour, Mr James Macharia from Health to Transport and Najib Balala from Mining to Tourism.

Former Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjuri was nominated to replace Anne Waiguru who resigned from the Devolution docket.

The new nominees will be vetted for approval or rejection by Parliament before taking over the positions.
