Hawkers attending events to mark the World Aids Day at the Kisumu’s Jomo Kenyatta sports grounds raked in huge profits from the sale of their wares.

A majority of the hawkers who spoke to this writer said they were at some point forced to replenish their supplies at least twice due to the high demand.

According to the hawkers, such scenarios do not happen regularly and they made profits that can only be achieved after a week.

“Today is the best day of the year in my business, thanks to the World Aids Day. I have sold stuff that usually takes a week,” said Neptone Okoth.

The hawkers supplied drinks and foodstuff to hundreds of people who graced the occasion from different walks of lives.

“Most of the time I usually sell my stuff to children but on this particular day people of all ages bought my goods, forcing me to replenish three times,” said Priscah Aketch.

However, some attendants complained that the hawkers had increased the prices of some commodities.

The hawkers, however, said they were selling products in regards to the current market trend.

This year’s celebrations in Kisumu attracted participants as far as Uganda.

The occasion was graced by Governor Jack Raguma. This year’s theme was Zero Infections.
