Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday promised to work with the church to fulfil the vision of the late Bishop Cornelius Korir.
Ruto said that Bishop Korir was a peace icon and he will ensure his legacy is upheld by all means by ensuring Kenyans live peacefully with one another.
The late Bishop Korir was the Bishop of the Catholic Eldoret Diocese, until his demise in 2017.
He was considered a peace icon who worked to help restore peace in the wide Kerio valley.
"The good deeds that the late Bishop Cornelius Korir started will be continued with the support of leaders. The late bishop left good plans of peace and building of the nation and we will ensure we do it," said the deputy president.
Ruto spoke during the installation ceremony of Rt. Rev Dominic Kimengich as the new Bishop of Eldoret Diocese on Saturday in Eldoret town.
"It is my promise that we shall continue working together to ensure that we continue building on the solid foundation that Bishop Korir left,” the deputy president added.
Ruto promised to accord the new bishop all the support that he needs.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago said he will ensure county governments in the North Rift work with the clergy and the church as a whole, in every aspect.
Mandago reiterated Bishop Kimengich’s experience in Lodwar as a sublime to efforts of ensuring that peace is established and maintained in Kerio Valley.
Over 15,000 catholic faithful attended the installation event held at the Mother of Apostles, Seminary.
