The Government has come under immense criticism from residents of Nyaronge village in Kitutu Masaba constituency over alleged bureaucracies in processing death certificates.

The angry residents, led by aspiring Gesima ward representative Mokaya Maroko on Friday accused workers at civil registry in Keroka for allegedly slowing the exercise without explanation.

According to them, many orphans would not access support from the government due to lack of crucial identification papers.

They urged the department of civil registry to investigate the conduct of officers in Keroka to unearth the mystery behind the delaying of the crucial document.

“It sometimes worries us that the government doesn’t issue the death certificates in time despite their relevance in service delivery. Many of us here, and even the chief is aware have been in an out of the office (Keroka Civil registry) but the document takes as many as 12 months to be processed. We need an urgent investigation to that effect,” Maroko said.

They questioned the area leadership’s commitment to help residents in need of the death certificates given persistent requests to solve the stalemate.

“Even the local leadership has failed us and we have no apologies to make. It’s detrimental that we even aged guardians seeking the document for their grandchildren are subjected to the bureaucracy. We want to see the government taking an action,” he added.

According to Mokaya, at least ten families in dire need of death certificates were subjected to unprecedented treatment in the Keroka offices.

“I know of ten needy cases where we are still unable to process death certificates of our loved ones to have their children helped by well-wishers or the government. This is the time for the government to crack a whip on lazy officials,” he said.
