Second hand television dealers in Nakuru are counting losses accrued following a drop in business that has been caused by digital migration in the country. According to the traders who talked to this writer in Nakuru town, many residents have stopped buying second hand television sets. Alex Mbithia a second hand television sets dealer along Mosque road in Nakuru town said he had registered low business activity in his shop since the digital migration phenomenon hit the country a few months ago. He said many buyers preferred buying new television sets that are easy to fix with digital gadgets necessary to allow transmission reception. “I have been unable to operate on profit since this digital migration situation came up. Am sorry I may have to quit this business,’’ he said. Another second hand television dealer along Oginga Odinga Avenue, Philip Kimani, said he no longer received customers willing to buy or sale second hand television sets. “I think all this has been caused by the complications of the digital migration. Many would-be-sellers feel that the television sets will not be of use while those willing to buy are being discouraged by the same situation,” he said. He added that he was unable to pay rent for his business premises and was contemplating quitting the business.
