Speaking to this writer on Friday morning, Obure said the national government is not providing enough security to its citizens, and suggested swapping to be done, so that those hailing from the volatile areas can be taken to those work stations.

He also requested President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure security is beefed up in all parts of the country, and accused the Kenyan security agencies of laxity in the event of attacks and misusing security equipment.

“The main role of the government is to protect life and property of the people. We cannot afford to lose lives of innocent Kenyans when our security agencies are fully armed, and taking long to respond to scenes sounds uncaring,” he said.

“I also ask the government to fire the officers who are alleged to be using security planes for their personal business,” he said.

“The government must transfer students and other workers from Garissa and other hot-blooded areas for non-Muslims. They should be transferred to safer area where they can be sure of their security and threaten them whenever they request for a transfer,” added the senator.

He further asked the government to conduct a crackdown and arrest the individuals who are allegedly involved in insecurity cases in the country.

“The government should conduct a thorough crackdown and arrest any suspect having links with the outlawed Alshaab group that is causing mayhem in our country,” added Obure.

The senator’s concerns comes two weeks after Alshabab stormed into Garissa University College, and Killed more than 145 students and staff members, with majority being students.

Kisii County recorded the highest number of those killed in the massacre, 12, while 32 students managed to escape the cruel hand of assailants.

Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has since promised to work with the national government in the fight against terrorism and insecurity as a whole.
