Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi has admitted that there is a leadership crisis in the county following the graft charges that Governor Mike Sonko is currently facing.

Speaking in Nairobi on Tuesday, Elachi said that they are aware of the problem and she is going to set a sitting in February once they resume from recess.

“We want to state categorically that we are aware that there is a leadership issue within Nairobi County after the Governor was arrested and charged with issues relating to corruption,” Elachi said.

The County speaker also assured Nairobians that the county is now free from corruption, nepotism, intimidation, favouritism and victimization.

“We want to assure Nairobians that the era of corruption, nepotism, intimidation, favoritism and victimisation is history in the Nairobi county government," she said.

In the meantime, Nairobi County boss Mike Sonko promised to abide to bail terms following his graft charges, having that he on Monday nominated a deputy governor, Ann Kanuna Mwenda.

"As a law-abiding citizen, I will continue to abide by the bail terms granted to me, and ensure that the operations of the County are not affected in any way, to guarantee the great people of Nairobi uninterrupted services,” Governor Sonko said
