For the first time, every household in Nairobi County will be required to pay for a fire inspection certificate.
The Nairobi City County’s Finance Bill 2019 has also introduced new monthly garbage collection charges and health inspection fee that the residents will be required to pay.
In the Bill, every household will be forced to dig deeper into their pockets to pay Sh2,000 every year for a fire inspection certificate.
Medium-sized bars and restaurants will be required to pay Sh12,000, up from Sh4,500 while bars with 100 seats will pay the normal Sh4,500 with no increase.
Every household will further be charged Sh100 garbage collection fee for informal settlements every month while middle class estates will pay Sh300 and high-end suburbs pay Sh600.
For pet lovers, you will now be required to pay Sh1,000 health inspection fee if you want to keep dogs or cats.
According to nation.co.ke, the county government has increased its annual fire inspection charges for gas filling stations and they will now pay Sh100,000 up from Sh25,000 while small-scale gas sellers will pay Sh30,000 up from Sh4,500.
The county government has introduced new taxes and levies to its residents and businesses in the county in a bid to finance the county government’s Sh35.2 billion annual budget.
