Kenyan-born Hodgen Mainda, 42, has officially assumed his role in the US cabinet after his appointment.
Mainda was appointed into office by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee earlier this month.
While taking his oath of office, Mainda pledged to work with diligence for the empowerment of the Americans and foreigners as well.
He becomes the newest member to join the Tennessee cabinet after the honour. Mainda has made history after he became the first Kenyan to hold such a position in the US Government.
He relocated to the us in 2008 with the aim of playing rugby before things worked in his favour.
Before his formal appointment, he had worked in different capacities in government relations and business development.
Some of the regions he worked are Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga.
Governor Lee exuded confidence that Mainda was the perfect candidate for the job during the appointment.
He said that he has a good personality, adding that he entry into his government will be a major boost for the economic empowerment of the voters from the region.
“Mainda joins my cabinet after an outstanding career as a community leader in Chattanooga," Governor Lee said, as quoted by Standard.
He added:"He is respected for his ability to build partnerships across multiple sectors and we welcome his leadership to such a multifaceted department like commerce and insurance."
